Practical Adjustments: Teaching with Touch

  • Boston Yoga Union - Back Bay 364 Boylston Street Boston, MA, 02116 United States (map)

Join Monia Fernandez and Tim Kelleher for a very “hands on” afternoon developing your assisting and adjusting skills. Learning when and how to use your hands while leading a full room of yogi’s requires practice and skill. Connecting with your students with good language and intelligent adjustments will help grow your classes, and the understanding your students have of their bodies on their mats and beyond.  We will focus on the types of adjustments you can adapt for all of your classes whether teaching flow, align or restorative yoga.

Explore ways of using touch for more in depth adjustments without losing focus on the rest of your students.

Expect to cover:

  • Hands-on and prop-supported adjustments - to open more space

  • Moving adjustments- assisting “in the flow”
Directional, Grounding and Supportive Adjustments - to bring direct awareness

  • Affirmative Consent in Yoga Rooms - how to be in dialogue and address power dynamic
Intelligent Body

  • Positioning - Learn to orient and ground yourself for safe/stable adjustments

  • How to employ trauma informed principles to adjustments

You will walk away from the session with a new sense of confidence about the your ability to teach with your hands, and some new techniques to weave into your classes to inspire your students!
